Carol graduated from UCLA with a BA in Cultural Anthropology and honors (Phi Beta Kappa, magna cum laude in major) without having had a single conversation with a professor about using her knowledge in the world of work nor a single class on how find and get a job she would enjoy.
Carol wryly notes, “Such as been the fate of most liberal arts majors for the last four decades. I made it my mission to learn how to take an individual’s strengths, interests, goals and values and use that information about the self to guide a successful job search. The techniques have to work, giving the job hunter confidence and effective skills, not just sound clever.”
Amazingly enough, Carol did get a job because of her cultural anthropology major (greatly vexing her father who had predicted she’d never get a job using her major.) But, contacts have to be given as much credit her major for her first professional job as a cross-cultural research assistant in a multi-racial high school. Cultural anthropology applied was even more fun than studying it!
She and her husband live near the Central Coast of California. They have taken on the challenge of continuing their consulting business while creating a sustainable farm. Carol is a fanatic gardener. When she looses all track of time, she’s either working in the garden or arranging flowers from it. This Spring, the farm has sprouted a cutting garden and flower boquet business.
